Finance executive, board advisor and governance leader.
John Liu is the Principal leading John Liu Professional Corporation’s external advisory, fractional finance leadership and accounting services. He works with boards and executive teams that need financial information translated into practical decisions, and with organizations that need experienced hands to strengthen reporting, controls and day-to-day execution.
John’s career spans more than a decade of senior finance leadership. Before establishing the firm, he served for eleven years as CFO and Secretary-Treasurer of Westmount Charter School, overseeing a budget of approximately $15 million, leading finance and operating teams, and supporting major capital projects. Through the firm, he has advised charter schools and other organizations across Calgary, Edmonton and Grande Prairie on budgeting, financial reporting, funding submissions, compliance, payroll, systems and internal controls.
His governance experience includes service with the Calgary Police Commission, Supply Chain Canada and professional regulatory and health-sector boards. He has chaired audit and finance work, contributed to oversight of significant operating and capital budgets, and taught and facilitated accounting, assurance and governance topics for post-secondary students and professional candidates.
John holds the Chartered Professional Accountant and Chartered Accountant designations and earned the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. His approach is direct, calm and practical: give decision-makers the information they need, explain what it means and help move the work forward.
